Wake up call

So, I have been very absent on the internet for the past week. This is because my life has been turned somewhat upside down. My Mr. underwent bypass surgery last week just 3 days after turning 53, with no notice. One minute you are in the doctor's office, the next you find yourself checking him into the hospital. This was Tuesday. Wednesday morning, surgery, the longest day of my life. Six hours later, the recovery begins. The whole ordeal is one of those "out of body" experiences. You find yourself asking, "when do I wake up from this nightmare", and then finally the reality that, "never", is the answer.

You find out how wonderfully giving and caring your friends are, and who they are. You become humbled and learn to ask for help. You see the miracle of science and the mystery of the human body unfold. You realize how precious life is and how quickly it could all be taken away.

As for him, the road to recovery has begun, and a long road it will be. He is only 53 and in great physical shape, which will help. He had a 5 artery bypass as well as a Carotid Endarterectomy, all areas were 99% blocked. His surgeon said that he should have been dead.

The good news, it was caught just in time, before stroke or heart attack occurred.

I will return to blogging in the near future. Expect the focus to be on heart healthy recipes. Fortunately for us, we won't have to make many changes.

This is just the beginning of a new journey for us both. Today is the 1 week anniversary of his new, healthy heart.

So, savour the moment. Smile. Kiss your loved ones. Move your body and caringly feed it all things healthy.

And the journey begins.................

Kimi... First, congratulations to your husband. I went through CABG around 16 years ago at age 46. I believe it was harder on my wife and both of us emphasize with what you are going through. Recovery is different for everybody but I believe he is soon to feel much, much better. If things are going as they should, your husband is up and walking around already and within a week will feel much better than he has in years. Good luck and keep the faith!

Just that one moment is all it takes to realize what has been right here all along.
Humanity appears-
It was always here.
We just didn't notice.
We're all in this together.
****LOVE ONE ANOTHER****

Take special care of your Mr. and yourself...we will all be here when you get back. I know I'm miles away, but if you need anything just shout, okay? The human body is more fragile than we think. I'm guilty of taking advantage of my good health. My thoughts are with you and your Mr. during his recovery.

Kimi, I'm so glad they cought it in time! I hope your husband is recovering well. I have a coworker who recently had a similar experience. I was amazed at how quickly he got back to work and seems well. I hope the same for your husband.

Have a beautiful Thanksgiving together. You must be counting your blessings right now.
